The Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles is progressive and artistic and has been that way for a very long time. Did you know Walt Disney built his first large studio here after moving out of his garage in Los Feliz? Inspiration is the through line of the area’s history and continues today with a robust live music scene, giving denizens a chance to see really great bands before they make it big. If you buy a home in Silver Lake, there’s a good chance your neighbor does something creative for a living.
The nightlife and music scene here reflects the neighborhood; it is vibrant and appealing to a younger crowd than the more polished entertainment one finds in other parts of L.A. While Silver Lake is known as a hipster part of the city, the neighborhood atmosphere is family-friendly and down-to-earth. In some regards, living here means never having to grow old.
The area is self-sufficient with many restaurants, cafes, bars and small, locally-owned retail shops. You can still buy vinyl at indy record stores here.
Silver Lake Reservoir is nestled in the middle of the neighborhood, with a well-used walking path (2.25 miles around) for strolling or jogging. At the southwest corner of the reservoir, Silver Lake Dog Park provides residents a great place to get Fido some fresh air and run around off-leash.
The Silver Lake Recreation Center provides sports fields for soccer and baseball. Indoor facilities are used for basketball and volleyball. Plus, they offer yoga, dance, aerobics, and painting classes.
Another great resource that locals love is the beautiful, modern Silver Lake Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL).
Homes for sale in Silver Lake are available in several architectural styles, including Contemporary, Mid-Century Modern, Craftsman, Spanish, Mediterranean, Bungalow, Art Deco, and even a few cottages. The district is home to John Lautner's famous Silvertop house as well as homes designed by Rudolf Schindler and Richard Neutra.
Silver Lake house prices are a bit steeper than northern neighbor Los Feliz but a little more affordable than Echo Park which abuts the district’s southern border. If you find a home you’d like to view, our Silver Lake real estate agents would love to assist you.
