An original Los Angeles neighborhood, Echo Park sits close to Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA), flanked by the Silver Lake neighborhood and Los Angeles River. The area is considered hip and trendy and a longtime home of notable residents involved in art, filmmaking, music and political activism.
Considered an up-and-coming part of city, home prices remain affordable compared to the rest of L.A. But, that is changing given the new upscale destinations that continue to open and the denizens drawn to living a more authentic lifestyle.
Improvements to the community come from the ongoing, multi-year revitalization of DTLA, the fruit of which now overflows into the Echo Park enclaves of Angelino Heights, Elysian Heights, Historic Filipinotown (HiFi) and Victor Heights.
The oldest park in the city, Elysian Park (1886), abuts the district and provides a convenient outlet for hikers, joggers and dog walkers. Plus, the park provides the closest hilltop view of the Downtown skyline. The park is also home to Dodger Stadium, making baseball games a walkable outing.
Another gem of the neighborhood is Echo Park Lake, home to canoes, jogging paths, and idyllic city skyline views. The Echo Park Rec Center has a pool, tennis courts and offers many programs for youth and adults alike. The community also celebrates the Annual Lotus Festival, with many activities put on by L.A. Parks and Rec, not the least of which is a Dragon Boat Race.
You’ll find no higher concentration of Victorian homes in Los Angeles County than here. Some homes date back to the late 1800s. Other great houses follow the architectural styles of Mission Revival, California Bungalow, and Craftsman.
